A Sellersville teen was killed late Wednesday night after their vehicle crashed into a home on Allentown Road in Franconia Township.
First responders were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle crash along the 200 block of Allentown Road at 10:50 p.m. on May 17. Arriving police discovered that a 2016 BMW sedan had left the roadway and crashed into an occupied home.
The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames following the crash, however the fire did not spread to the home, officials said. The driver of the vehicle — identified as a 16-year-old male from Sellersville — was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of the five people within the home were injured, police said. The family was forced to relocate as an inspection by the Franconia Township Fire Marshal and Code Enforcement deemed the home structurally unsafe for habitation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, however police said speed appears to have played a factor. An autopsy of the victim is being performed Thursday by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office to determine the victim’s manner and cause of death.
Allentown Road was closed between Lower Road and Banbury Road until 1:50 a.m. as a result of the crash, officials said. Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Telford and Souderton police departments, Perseverance Fire Company, Harleysville Fire Police, and other agencies.
No police officers, firefighters, or members of the public were injured in the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Franconia Township Police Department at 215-723-6778.
