A Perkasie man is facing charges after he allegedly sold a stolen generator on Facebook Marketplace.
Hilltown Township Police were contacted in January regarding a generator that had been stolen from a business along the 4800 block of Bethlehem Pike. Investigators were contacted again at the end of February after the owner of the generator discovered it had been listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
Police said the generator had been listed for sale by 40-year-old Brian Cooper, and a photograph of the serial number on the marketplace listing matched the number on the stolen generator. Investigators made contact with Cooper at his home, at which point Cooper stated he had already sold the generator for a friend and provided police with the name of the buyer, according to charging documents.
The buyer agreed to return the generator, and Cooper agreed to repay the buyer the $500 within two weeks, police said. Cooper was contacted by police a month after failing to repay the money by the deadline, police said, adding that he hung up when they identified themselves on the call.
Having allegedly failed to repay the buyer, Cooper has been charged with misdemeanor counts of deceptive business practices and receiving stolen property. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 20 at 1:45 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
