Lansdale’s Liberty Belles Chorus Earns First Place in Harmony Inc’s A Cappella Competition

Liberty Belles Chorus of Lansdale earned first place in Harmony Inc’s Area Three A Cappella Competition on Saturday, May 6. The Lansdale chorus competed against more than 200 singers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia, who participated in the regional contest that took place in Syracuse, NY. The Liberty Belles performed two songs, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and a new arrangement of “New York, New York,” earning them the triumphant win.

This is the Liberty Belles Chorus’ first win at the Area Three Contest for the group that was founded in 2006.

“The team spirit is fantastic and that’s what truly makes the difference. It takes the 100% participation of every individual in this chorus to make great music and give every single person in the audience a phenomenal gift. This, along with passion, is what makes us an outstanding chorus,” said Musical and Artistic Director Anne Bureau. Under Anne and her husband, esteemed vocal coach Ig Jakovac, the 35-member chorus is at top level and anticipates a winning performance at Harmony Inc’s 2023 International Convention and Contests on Nov. 8 through Nov. 11 in Grand Rapids, MI.

Harmony, Inc. has hosted area and international conventions for more than 60 years, gathering women singers of all musical backgrounds and experience levels to participate in a series of competitions for quartets and choruses. Participants are adjudicated by a panel of trained judges evaluating categories that encompass song selection, skill, and performance.

“The Liberty Belles not only earned area recognition for its performance, but has also accomplished something equally notable in qualifying to join other choruses at the premier event in Harmony, Inc.’s annual competition cycle,” said Sarah Thorne-Miller, Area Three Director.

The Liberty Belles Chorus’ next performance is Thursday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at Gwynedd Estates in Ambler. The group’s annual show will take place on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Souderton Mennonite Church.
