Area Churches Set 'Gun Violence Awareness Day' Lansdale Walk May 21

As a follow-up to the Memorial to the Lost display of T-shirts in February, Lansdale United Methodist Church, in partnership with Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence, is planning a Gun Violence Awareness Day on Sunday, May 21, from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The key event will be a Witness Walk through Lansdale, from Trinity Lutheran Church and back to Trinity Lutheran Church. The walk will begin with a brief service and prayer at Trinity Lutheran Church, and will continue on Main Street for several blocks and loop back to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Along the walk, participants may carry signs with words or phrases and images that carry the message of the goal to end gun violence.

At the end of the walk, there will be a Remembrance Service and an opportunity for advocacy by signing letters to state and federal legislators calling for common-sense gun laws. "Every day brings new stories of lives lost to gun violence," says a release from Lansdale United Methodist Church. "We need to continue our efforts to remember those who lost their lives and the families who grieve their loss."

Area faith communities that have been working together to plan the day include Trinity Lutheran, St. John’s, Salford Mennonite Church, Renew Community, Plains Mennonite Church, and Christ Covenant Church.

Heeding God’s Call to End Gun Violence, a faith-based and grassroots organization headquartered in Philadelphia, is the key sponsor and partner in this effort. Contact Bryan Miller at (215) 385-3404 or email [email protected] for more information.
