An arrest warrant has been issued for a Norristown woman in connection with the Saint Patrick’s Day crash on North Wales Road that sent two women to the hospital — including the accused.
Court records show Montgomery Township Police filed charges against 42-year-old Nicole McFarland on March 31, including felony counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, endangering the welfare of children, DUI, and accidents involving death or injury while not licensed. The docket is listed as “inactive,” meaning McFarland has not turned herself in and the allegations within the criminal complaint are inaccessible until she has been arraigned.
First responders were dispatched to the scene near the Montgomery Mall around 6:30 p.m. on March 17 for a report of a crash involving a gray 2019 Kia Sorento and a black 2022 Ford Explorer. Arriving personnel located two injured drivers, with the driver of the Kia — identified as a 62-year-old female — trapped inside of her vehicle.
Crews worked to extricate the female, who was eventually freed and transported via ambulance to Grand View Hospital for treatment of leg, back, and facial injuries, police said. The other driver — now identified as McFarland — sustained a facial laceration and was also transported via ambulance to Grand View Hospital, according to police.
North Wales Road was closed for approximately five hours due to the crash, police said, with the scene being cleared at 11:28 p.m. The cause of the crash has not been released as McFarland has not been arraigned.
While the details and allegations against McFarland aren’t publicly available, some of the accusations can be discerned via the charges filed against her. For instance, the summary charge of “exceeding the max speed limit by 19 miles-per-hour” indicates that police are alleging McFarland was speeding at the time of the crash. Additionally, the summary charge of “driving while BAC .02 or greater while license suspended” indicates that police are alleging that McFarland had alcohol in her system while driving on a suspended license at the time of the crash.
Though the docket is listed as inactive, it does list attorney information for McFarland, which is unusual as that information is typically submitted during arraignment. When asked about the attorney information, a representative for Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy’s court told North Penn Now that the attorney entered their appearance on behalf of McFarland, who is allegedly receiving inpatient treatment. An entrance of appearance is insufficient for the preliminary arraignment, however, and the arrest warrant remains active, according to the court representative.
Montgomery Township Police confirmed to North Penn Now that the warrant remains active, and they are awaiting McFarland to turn herself in to face the charges.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
