Lansdale Borough Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting incident that occurred outside of Panico’s Neighborhood Grill and Sports Tavern during the early-morning hours of March 3.
Eddie Cox, 33, of Norristown, was arraigned Wednesday evening on charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, reckless endangerment and possession of a weapon. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $99,000 cash bail along with a probation detainer, court records show.
A second suspect, identified as 39-year-old Abisail Rubi, of Norristown, has been charged with conspiracy offenses in connection with the shooting, however she has evaded capture to this point and remains on the loose.
Police were dispatched to the 500 block of North Cannon Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. Investigators said Cox got into an altercation with patrons at the bar, after which he and Rubi began to leave. Once outside, Cox and Rubi began walking toward the parking lot, at which point Cox retrieved a handgun from Rubi’s purse and fired a single shot towards the bar, according to charging documents.
The two suspects then got into a dark colored sedan and fled the scene eastbound, police said.
The investigation determined that a bystander was nearly struck by the bullet, which ultimately struck a support pole on the porch, according to the criminal complaint. A single shell casing was recovered by police at the scene, and both the initial incident inside the bar and the shooting incident outside the bar were captured on surveillance footage, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Cox has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 11 a.m. on April 12 in front of District Judge Maureen Coggins. Rubi will be arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, conspiracy to discharge a firearm into an occupied structure, conspiracy to possess a weapon and conspiracy to recklessly endanger another person, once she is located and taken into custody.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Abisail Rubi is asked to contact the Lansdale Borough Police Department at 215-368-1801. Tips can also be submitted electronically and anonymously here.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
