A man from Prosper, TX is facing charges after he allegedly stole a Playstation 5 while staying at the Staybridge Suites in Montgomery Township.
Jacob Wyatt, 32, has been charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespassing, along with misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, in connection with the March 13 incident.
Montgomery Township Police were dispatched to the hotel at 4:52 a.m. for a report of a burglary. The victim told police they returned to their room to find that the room had been ransacked and their Playstation 5 was missing, according to charging documents.
Investigators said they learned that Wyatt had accidentally been provided a key to the victim’s room by staff at the hotel’s front desk, at which point Wyatt entered the room, stole the Playstation 5 and smashed various items from the refrigerator on the floor. Police executed a search warrant on Wyatt’s room several hours later and recovered the Playstation, according to the criminal complaint.
Wyatt is currently free on 10% of $10,000 cash bail. Court records show Wyatt waived his preliminary hearing, and his next court appearance is a formal arraignment at county court on May 3 at 9:30 a.m.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
