Pottsgrove Manor - Collaborative Cooking with Marissa Nicosa

Delve into historic hearth cooking, and follow us on social media, as we collaborate with rare cooking blogger, Marissa Nicosa. An assistant professor of English, Marissa is insatiably curious about weird pamphlets, recipe manuscripts, and archival oddities. But what do the household ledgers of Pottsgrove Manor reveal in the kitchen? Kick off the day by hearing Nicosa speak about her research and what historic manuscripts can teach cooks today. Fill your afternoon by seeing what creations are being made in the kitchen of Pottsgrove Manor. Peter Wentz Farmstead - Clara in a Time of War – Book Talk with Author C.J. McGroarty

It’s 1777, and Clara is struggling to keep her family together while her husband is away fighting in the American Revolution. Her life is thrown for a loop when a wounded and mysterious man shows up at her Chester County home. Join us at Wentz’s United Church of Christ to meet local author C.J. McGroarty and hear the story behind her new novel, Clara in a Time of War. Copies of the book will be available for purchase to be signed by the author. Pennypacker Mills - Spring Craft Workshop for Kids
Saturday, April 1, 10 a.m. to Noon - $5 per child

Let’s welcome spring in style! Kids are invited to Pennypacker Mills for to create spring-themed crafts. During the workshop, kids will paint a terracotta pot and create yarn flowers, a bouncy bumblebee, a paper wreath, and a 3-D Hoppy Spring card. This workshop takes place in the Classroom Building, just above the Pennypacker Mills mansion. Pennypacker Mills - More Trees Please!

Happy Arbor Day! Come to Pennypacker Mills to celebrate the importance of trees with lots of fun and educational activities. Visit the WoodMobile, a 34-foot trailer that travels throughout Pennsylvania teaching about our forests with an interactive exhibit. See a hive box and hear our beekeeper talk about bees’ impact on trees. Learn how to identify trees with a Master Gardener. Make several themed crafts, including “Seed Bombs.” Walk our StoryWalk and read the children’s story “More Trees Please!” Take a tour of the Pennypacker mansion and learn about Governor Samuel Pennypacker’s impact on Pennsylvania forestry. All ages are welcome to visit the Mills for this free event!

Montgomery County owns and/or manages more than 6,000 acres of public open space which includes nine parks, five historic sites, and nearly 100 miles of regional trails. These areas include over 125 historic and non-historic structures, playgrounds, a fish ladder, a working historic canal lock, a wildlife center, and an archives/artifact collection of over 53,000 pieces. Our parks, trails, and historic sites combined are enjoyed by over 2 million visitors each year. Park lands include fishing opportunities, environmental education programs, hiking, boat rentals, pavilions, and more. Our trail systems and connections have been noted as some of the finest trails in the country, with the goal of all Montgomery County residents being no further than a few miles from their home to a trail experience. The historic sites preserve such things as the collection of a Pennsylvania governor, a Pennsylvania German farmstead, a colonial ironmaster’s home and the first American home of John James Audubon, a National Landmark.
