A Towamencin man was hospitalized Thursday afternoon for treatment of a head injury after a tree fell onto him along the 1800 block of Rampart Lane.
Police were initially dispatched to the scene for a report of an unconscious male who had been struck by a falling tree. Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel said arriving officers located a 72-year-old male who had since regained consciousness and was sitting up bleeding from an injury on the side of his head.
Investigators learned that a nine-foot tree had fallen onto the man, though Troxel said the cause of the tree falling wasn’t immediately available as officers were still working on the report.
Troxel described the injury as non-life threatening, adding the man was transported via ambulance to Grand View Hospital for an evaluation. The victim’s injury was classified as a class two trauma due to it being a head injury, but police said he was not bleeding profusely.
The incident was initially reported as there being two victims, however investigators determined there had been a mix up as the 911 call indicated the man’s grandson was on scene which was misconstrued as there being a second victim. The grandson was unharmed, police said.
The scene was cleared at 3:38 p.m.
Towamencin Police were assisted at the scene by units from VMSC Emergency Medical Services and the Towamencin Fire Company.
