Franconia Township Police have released the identity of the teen killed in a single-vehicle crash on Schoolhouse Road earlier this week.
Police were dispatched to the scene at 7:15 a.m. on June 26 for a report of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Halteman Road. Arriving officers found that a Ford sedan had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
Investigators said that immediately following the impact, a passing motorist and a nearby Pennsylvania State Trooper stopped at the scene and were able to pull the driver — identified as 18-year-old Ryan Rodgers, of Souderton — from the vehicle before it caught fire. Rodgers was transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.
Units from the Franconia Township Police Department and the Perseverance Fire Company extinguished the fire on scene, and Schoolhouse Road was closed between Lower and Halteman roads until 8:50 a.m., police said.
The crash remains under investigation, however police officials said in an update Thursday morning that no impairment is suspected and neither adverse driving nor traffic conditions appear to be the cause for the crash. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Franconia Township Police Department at 215-723-6778.
According to Rodger’s obituary, he recently moved from Oaklyn/Collingswood, New Jersey and was attending Williamson College of the Trades while also working at Lehigh Valley Lawn at the time of his death. Rodgers was a three-sport athlete at Collingswood High School over his four years there.
A fundraiser has subsequently been launched following Rodgers’ death. Donations can be made here.
