Man Sentenced to Jail, Probation for Brandishing Firearm During Road Rage Incident on Bethlehem Pike

A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to jail time and probation after he brandished a firearm during a road rage incident on Bethlehem Pike in February 2021.

Cauras Garland, 42, pleaded guilty in January to one felony count of firearms not to be carried without a license and a misdemeanor count of terroristic threats, with the remaining charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment, reckless endangerment, and possession of a weapon being dropped in exchange for his plea.

On Friday, Common Pleas Judge Steven O’Neill sentenced Garland to 6 to 23 months in county jail, followed by five years’ probation, according to a report by Carl Hessler Jr. at the Reporter. Garland must report to jail on July 7 to begin serving his sentence, the report states.

The charges stem from a Feb. 17, 2021, incident in Montgomery Township, in which Garland pulled in front of another vehicle, stopped his car, exited the vehicle and pointed a silver handgun at the head of the driver behind him, according to the criminal complaint. Garland reportedly told the victim “I don’t know who the f—k you think you are, but I don’t play that s—t,” police said.

Garland then got back into his vehicle as traffic began to move, fleeing southbound on Bethlehem Pike, the report states.

Police said they located the vehicle in a parking lot along the 900 block of Bethlehem Pike, at which point Garland stated that another vehicle had hit him. Garland initially denied having a handgun, however he later confessed that he had a firearm in the vehicle and did not possess a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Further investigation showed Garland’s concealed carry permit had previously been revoked, police said.
