Franconia Township Police have released the details of a Monday morning crash along the 300 block of Schoolhouse Road that resulted in the death of a local teen.
Police were dispatched to the scene at 7:15 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Halteman Road. Arriving officers found that a Ford sedan had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
Investigators said that immediately following the impact, a passing motorist and a nearby Pennsylvania State Trooper stopped at the scene and were able to pull the driver from the vehicle before it caught fire. The driver — identified as an 18-year-old male from Franconia — was transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.
Units from the Franconia Township Police Department and the Perseverance Fire Company extinguished the fire on scene. Schoolhouse Road was closed between Lower and Halteman roads until 8:50 a.m., police said.
The identity of the teen has not been released. No other injuries were reported, police said.
Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Pennsylvania State Police Troop T, Lower Salford and Souderton police departments, along with Freedom Valley Medical Rescue, JeffSTAT2, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale, and Cope’s Towing.
The crash is currently under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Franconia Township Police Department at 215-723-6778.
