A Bucks County man was hospitalized Saturday night after his motorized paraglider struck a treetop and crash landed in Franconia Township.
Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Greenhill Road off of Cowpath Road at 8:35 p.m. on June 17 for what was initially described by county dispatch as a plane crash. Arriving officers arrived at the scene to find a 48-year-old Warminster man suffering from multiple lower body injuries after his motorized paraglider crash landed.
Franconia Township Police Chief Michael Martin said the man was on a solo flight and no other motorized paragliders were operating in the area. The man struck a treetop which then caused an uncontrolled descent and ultimately resulted in the crash landing, Martin said.
The man suffered multiple lower body injuries as a result of the crash, however he remained conscious and alert throughout the incident. He was transported to Grand View Hospital via ambulance for treatment, and no other injuries were reported.
“The crash is still being investigated by the Franconia Township Police Department,” Martin said. “We ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information, please contact the Franconia Township Police Department at 610-723-6778.”
Traffic on Greenhill Road was briefly interrupted, Martin said, adding that the scene was cleared by 9:53 p.m.
Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Telford Borough Police, Telford Fire Company, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale, and Dunn’s Towing.
