Second-graders at North Wales Elementary, Oak Park Elementary, and Spring-Ford Elementary celebrated Flag Day a few days early with help from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Members from the Towamencin Chapter DAR visited classrooms at the schools on Monday with the patriotic program that included flag etiquette, how to fold a flag 13 times into a triangle, Betsy Ross’ technique for making a five-pointed star with one snip of a scissors, and reading “America’s Flag Story,” by Karen S. Robbins. A copy of the book was then donated to each school’s library.
Each student received a goodie bag containing items with an American flag motif.
In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated each year on June 14, and commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States of America on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
