Little’s Ice Cream to Operate Snack Stands at Lansdale Borough Pools This Summer

After two years of vacant snack stands at White’s Road Pool and Fourth Street Pool, Lansdale Borough announced Monday a new local popular vendor for both snack stands – Little’s Ice Cream & Water Ice of North Wales Borough.

“We are super excited to share that Little’s Ice Cream & Water Ice will be running the snack stands at both borough pool facilities this summer,” stated the post, announced on the Lansdalepa Facebook page. “We're still working on the particulars, but we're hoping they'll be up and running by the time school is out.”

Formerly known as Wunderlick’s and Wish’s, the neighborhood ice cream shop is owned by PGA Head Golf Professional Mike Little and his wife Star and was voted Best of Montco in 2022 and 2023 by readers of Montco Happening. Little, a North Penn grad and brother of musician and singer Sharon June Little, also runs indoor golf studio Clubhouse 54 and founded Makefield Putters.

For 15 years, both snack stands were run by Cool Eats owners Skip and Sheila McCoy, that is until July 12, 2021, when the McCoys, who also run A+ Jump Party Rentals, announced via Facebook that both locations closed permanently “due to disagreements with the Lansdale Parks and Rec department” and former director Karl Lukens.

Cool Eats continues to operate locations at Towamencin Pool, Harleysville Pool, Souderton Pool, and Mary Barness Swim Club in Warrington, according to its website.

Little’s had one of the longest lines at Saturday’s North Wales Summer Kickoff event, where it debuted its pulled pork sandwich made with white wine braised pork shoulder with herb-roasted garlic aioli and sharp provolone cheese on a long roll.

Little’s is currently hiring a junior/senior scooper and a prep/line cook. Fill out an application via Google Forms here.

Lansdale Borough administration accepted Requests for Proposals for the snack stands through March 31, 2023.

According to the RFP, the scope of work includes “the entire operation of said snack stands including the purchasing of all goods for sale, staffing, operating, furnishing and maintenance of necessary equipment and supplies in order to operate the stands in a manner consistent with the Borough's objective concerning the swimming pool operations and to the satisfaction of the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation.”

Little’s is also responsible for complying with all local health codes, as well as all other applicable state or federal laws that may be applicable to the proposer’s operations, maintaining regular and consistent operational hours for recreational swimming, lessons, and swim meets, training all personnel as it relates to proper food handling, furnishing and maintaining all equipment necessary to operate snack stands including freezers, refrigerators, ovens, grills, fryers, blenders, et cetera, per the RFP.

Little’s must pay for all utilities and rent will be determined by comparing the electric bill from 2022 to 2023, with the lessee paying the difference in rates.

The snack stand at both pools would be open daily mid-June to Labor Day, noon to 8 p.m. Monday to Sunday through August 15, and noon to 7 p.m. from August 15 to Labor Day.

Little’s is located at 117 E. Montgomery Ave. in North Wales and can be reached at 215-699-0103. It is open every day from noon to 9 p.m.
