A Philadelphia man is custody after a wallet was stolen from a Montgomeryville restaurant and the credit and debit cards fraudulently used.
Timothy Cuthbert, 61, was arrested and detailed last week for an incident on June 9 in which an employee discovered their wallet missing and was receiving emails about charges being made. Cuthbert was charged with theft, forgery, and multiple charges of access device fraud and knowingly possessing a counterfeit or altered access device.
Montgomery Township Police responded to the initial call from Wasabi Sushi & Poke Bowl on Bethlehem Pike in North Wales at about 8:45 p.m. The employee reported the wallet stolen and said they reviewed security footage showing a male who had asked to use the bathroom entering an Employees Only door and taking the wallet from that room.
The victim told police the man was accompanied by a woman who was speaking to staff up front; when the man returned, both left quickly. Fraudulent transactions totaling about $7,000 at various retail locations showed up on the victim’s cards; video surveillance from the shops showed the same suspects in each transaction, police said.
Montgomery Township Police had a similar case in which Cuthbert was the suspect, according to charging documents, and traffic monitoring equipment showed his car driving along 309 consistent with the times the cards were used.
Cuthbert is being held on previous parole or probation detainers; his next court appearance is Aug. 1 at 10:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Hudak Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using police reports, court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
