Police: Philadelphia Man Charged After Driving Stolen Van

A Philadelphia man has been charged after police say they stopped him while driving a stolen U-Haul van in Montgomery Township.

Brandin Jones, 31, was charged with felony receiving stolen property, marijuana, possession of drugs and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On June 16 at 1:25 p.m., Montgomery Township Police conducted a traffic stop for a van at 4 Storage on 1070 Bethlehem Pike, according to charging documents. Before the stop, police checked the plates and found that the van had been stolen out of Philadelphia on March 20, according to the criminal complaint. The Philadelphia Police Department confirmed the van was stolen, the report said.

Police reportedly asked the driver, later identified as Jones, to exit the vehicle; he complied and consented to a search, during which police found a bag of marijuana, according to the complaint.

A summons was issued July 13; Jones’ next court appearance is a preliminary hearing Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Hudak Duffy.
