A Sellersville man was arrested and charged with assault Friday following a hit-and-run incident in Hilltown Township.

On Feb. 7, the Hilltown Township Police Department responded to a road rage incident, where a driver was struck by a blue Chevrolet Express van in the Hilltown Plaza Shopping Center on Bethlehem Pike at Route 113. The van was driven by a man later identified as 28-year-old Edward Jonathan Sandy, according to police.

Sandy struck the other driver after they exited their vehicle in the parking lot, lifting them off the ground onto the hood, according to charging documents. He then drove over them and exited the lot, fleeing north on County Line Road, according to police.

Hilltown Police turned to the public, who helped identify and locate the van captured on suveillance cameras. Tips submitted to Crimewatch PA located the van parked in Sellersville. "The Hilltown Township Police Department would like to thank everyone who submitted a tip to help locate the van,” the department said in a statement.

Sandy was taken into custody July 21 and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman, where he was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle, reckless driving, possession of an instrument of a crime with intent, simple assault, accidents involving death or injury without a license, recklessly endangering another person, driving with a suspended license, and tampering with physical evidence, among other charges.

He was released after posting 10% of $20,000 bail. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using police reports, court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
