Police: Lansdale Man Charged With Retail Theft From Wegmans Market

A Lansdale man was arrested and charged with felony retail theft after he allegedly stole items from Wegmans Supermarket in on Bethlehem Pike Montgomeryville.

Montgomery Township Police Department responded to Wegmans on April 24 for a report of retail theft, where a loss prevention officer told police a surveillance video showed a man, later identified as 74-year-old John McIntyre, placing merchandise into his cart and reusable bags and leaving through the café exit without paying, according to the criminal complaint.

A Wegmans manager and loss prevention officer approached McIntyre on the sidewalk near the café parking lot and asked that he follow them back to the loss prevention office, according to police. McIntyre complied and later admitted to theft due to financial hardship, according to the report. A receipt showed that the total of the theft was $262.50.

Police said that a records search revealed McIntyre had three prior retail theft arrests, which made this incident a felony. He was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property.

McIntyre was issued a summons in July; his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Sept. 12 at 9:45 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Hudak Duffy.
