Police: Lansdale Man Breaks Into Upper Gwynedd Garage, Loses Phone

A ringing cell phone helped land a Lansdale man behind bars last week, after being arrested by Upper Gwynedd Police on a charge of felony burglary.

According to police, David Anthony DeVincent, 32, was taken into custody after being discovered in a garage on the 600 block of Green Street shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19. Officers responding to a dispatch call found a Ford Explorer belonging to DeVincent with its license plate covered with black electrical tape, backed into an alley adjacent to the garage, according to charging documents.

Hearing movement in the garage, the officers knocked, and found a man who identified himself as DeVincent exiting by the rear door, wearing latex gloves, who admitted to officers that he’d removed the lock and that it wasn’t his garage, according to police.

During their investigation, DeVincent gave officers his phone number and asked them to help him find it by calling — and they heard the phone ringing in the garage, according to charging documents. DeVincent then laughed and told them he had tossed his belongings there when he heard the knock.

The garage’s renter confirmed that DeVincent did not have permission to enter it, and they saw through the truck’s windows numerous items from the garage, police said.

DeVincent was remanded to county jail after bail was set at $77, indicating a previous probation or parole detainer has been filed. His next court date will be Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard.
