Nearly 50 young adults with disabilities danced the night away during Variety’s recent Red, White, Blue and You prom night event.
Variety — the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley provides young adults with disabilities with social, educational, and vocational programs that encourage independence and self-confidence, and prepare them for life, according to its website. The nonprofit organization partnered with ACME Markets to host the prom for the first time since pre-pandemic days.
"ACME was thrilled to return and host the Variety prom in-person after its three-year hiatus. It’s always great to see the smiling faces of the campers, counselors, and staff. On prom night it’s hard to tell who is having more fun, the campers or the volunteers,” said Dana Ward, ACME Markets Senior Public Affairs Manager.
The prom gave high school-aged campers and summer vocational participants a chance to experience prom in an environment conscious of sensory needs, which they might not otherwise receive in other events.
ACME arranged and donated corsages and boutonnieres and provided catering, as well as decorations and photography. Evans Entertainment donated DJ services for the evening.
The event was held in Variety’s Recreational Hall. The night ended with chosen attendees being crowned Prom King and Queen, as well as Prince and Princess.
"Variety is grateful to long-time corporate supporter ACME and its hardworking employee volunteers who create this memorable, gorgeous event for our high school students. It is a unique event that Variety campers talk about for many years,” said Dominique Bernardo, CEO of Variety.
