A Souderton restaurateur with a family history of serving the borough and beyond has opened his second restaurant, dubbed Peppe Steaks, serving premium cheesesteaks, Italian hoagies, and roast pork, according to WFMZ.
Joseph Chiaro is the boss of the Peppe Steaks at 144 N. Main St., as well as The Burger Shop, located just a few doors down. Peppe Steaks is a BYOB establishment.
Chiaro’s family restaurant, Caruso Brick Oven Trattoria, was closed by his parents Gaetano and Rita Chiaro in late April after 20 years in business.
Peppe Steaks features a menu of signature sandwiches ranging from $9 to $12, including the “Go Birds,” which is chicken cutlet, mushrooms, basil pesto and mozzarella, “The Classic,” which is fresh steak, wiz cheese and fried onions, “Veggie Grinder,” which is fresh sauteed vegetables and melted provolone, and the Italian hoagie, made with ham, salami, provolone, greens, raw onions, and tomatoes, per the report.
"We're offering really fresh comfort food," Chiaro told WFMZ. "Our menu isn't huge, but everything that we do offer is made fresh in-house."
Customers can also create their own sandwiches by choosing beef, chicken, or roast pork, choosing a Liscio’s Bakery roll or sesame roll, choosing a cheese, like provolone, wiz, Cooper sharp or Swiss, and then picking a sauce, like chipotle, honey mustard, marinara, and salsa verde, per the report. Custom sandwiches start at $9 for beef or chicken and $10 for roast pork, according to the report.
Peppe Steaks is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with a walk-up window operating later on Friday and Saturday nights.
