Two Rescued Following Crash with Overturned Vehicle on Cowpath Road Sunday Afternoon

Two people were hospitalized Sunday afternoon after their vehicle overturned during a crash on Cowpath Road at the intersection with Telford Pike in Franconia Township.

According to Franconia Township Police Chief Michael Martin, police were dispatched to the scene at 5:14 p.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a 2014 Chevy sedan that was flipped on its side and a 2010 Nissa sedan. The driver of the Chevy — identified as a 19-year-old female — along with an unidentified passenger became trapped in the vehicle and were later extricated by members of the Telford Fire Company.

Both the driver and passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported via ambulance to Grand View Hospital for treatment, Martin said. The occupants of the Nissan — identified as a 20-year-old female driver along with a passenger — were uninjured in the crash.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators the Chevy turned left in front of the Nissan, causing a broadside collision and the vehicle to roll over on its side.

“Neither excessive speeds nor impairment are suspected at this time,” Martin said.

Traffic was diverted from Cowpath Road and Telford Pike as first responders worked the scene, which was ultimately cleared at 6:37 p.m. Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Telford Borough Police Department, Telford Fire Company, Telford Fire Police, Souderton Borough Police, VMSC Emergency Services, Freedom Valley Ambulance, and Cope’s Towing.

Martin said traffic citations are pending the completion of the investigation.
