Whitpain Township Police have released some of the details from Monday night’s fatal crash on Stenton Avenue that left one dead and one injured.
First responders were dispatched to the intersection with Wickerfield Drive at 10:31 p.m. for an initial report of a building fire. There was some confusion with the dispatch notes indicating a home had been struck by a vehicle, however officials said arriving police located a single vehicle that had struck a utility pole and burst into flames.
One occupant of the vehicle, identified as a 33-year-old male, was found dead at the scene. A second occupant, identified as a 31-year-old male, sustained severe injuries, according to police, and they were airlifted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment. Sources told North Penn Now the man sustained burn injuries.
Stenton Avenue remains closed between Butler Pike and Norristown Road, as investigators process the scene and PECO crews work to replace the damaged utility pole.
Investigators have not released information at this time regarding what caused the crash.
Whitpain Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Centre Square Fire Company, Wissahickon Fire Company, Harmonville Fire Company, Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Whitpain Township Police Department at 610-279-9033.
