One Dead, One Airlifted After Car Strikes House, Catches Fire Monday Night in Whitpain Township

UPDATE: July 11, 10:20 a.m. - Police said the house was not struck, and the vehicle instead hit a utility pole on Stenton Avenue and burst into flames. Additional information and update here.

One person is dead and another injured after a vehicle appears to have struck a home near the intersection of Stenton Avenue and Wickerfield Drive in Whitpain Township Monday evening.

First responders were dispatched to the scene at 10:31 p.m. for an initial report of a residential dwelling fire. Arriving crews located a vehicle that had crashed into a nearby home, with the vehicle catching fire following the crash, according to our sources.

One person was killed in the crash, and a second person was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment of burns, sources said. The identities of the victims have not been released, and it’s unclear if the deceased was inside of the vehicle or home.

The vehicle fire was placed under control around 10:50 p.m.

Stenton Avenue was closed between Butler Pike and Norristown Road as investigators processed the scene. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office was also observed on scene.

North Penn Now has reached out to Whitpain Township Police Chief Ken Lawson for additional information on the crash. We will provide an update once we have received a response.
