First Look: Imprint Beer Co. Announces Opening of ‘Gnarcadium’ Free-to-Play Brewerycade

One of the highest rated craft breweries in Pennsylvania is about to expand their local entertainment footprint in a big way, courtesy of the launch of the North Penn area’s first-ever brewerycade.

Hatfield-based Imprint Beer Co. has confirmed the public opening of their latest pursuit — dubbed the “Gnarcadium” — will occur on Friday, Jan. 27. The 1,200-square-foot activity space, formerly utilized as their original taproom, has been converted into a retro arcade and gaming space, complete with custom lighting and a variety of other options.

“We’ve been talking about what to do with our original brewery suite for about a year. We considered a few things and moved forward on a dedicated private party area for medium to large parties,” said Ryan Diehl, co-owner of Imprint Beer Co. “After asking ourselves what the new space will be used for when there are no parties, we quickly pivoted and decided that a brewerycade was the way to go.”

At launch, the space will feature 10 retro arcade games — including classics like Double Dragon, Mortal Kombat, The Simpsons, and Area 51 — along with several pinball games, a dart board, a pool table, shuffleboard, and multiple new televisions. Diehl said he plans to rotate games and expand their offerings after securing initial customer feedback for the new layout and design.

With the new layout and offerings also comes an expansion to the brewery’s business hours, with a fifth day — Wednesdays — added so more people can check out the brewerycade. Regular hours will now be Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., with special hours provided for certain sporting events — such as the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game this Sunday.

“The Gnarcadium will be in use every minute we are open, whether for patrons or for parties,” Diehl said. “Importantly, we decided early on that we would not charge an entrance fee, nor charge to play each game. When we tell people about free play, they are always amazed.”

You read that correctly: From pool, to darts, to the retro video games, there is zero fee to play, so long as the guest has purchased a food or drink item. There is, however, an age restriction, as when the space is not being used for a private party, guests must be age 21 or older to enter the Gnarcadium, with the exception of noon to 5 p.m. on weekends, which is all-ages.

Currently, the activity space is set up with ten tables and 35 seats, however Diehl said they can comfortably scale the space to handle up to 70 guests.

“There is a lot of space for tables for people to hang out, eat and drink, as well as play all the games,” said Diehl. “The lights are dimmed, and we have really cool customizable LED lights on the walls to emphasize the fun, arcade vibe.”

To keep the space occupied during the week, Diehl said he’s looking into hosting an existing pool league and may form his own Gnarcadium-based team in the future. He’s additionally looking into the possibility of joining as a host for one of the area’s dart leagues.

“Both are great ideas for a consistent stream of dedicated patrons,” Diehl said.

The space will also be available for private and semi-private parties, with lighting and sound fully customized to whatever the organizer is seeking. Diehl gave a couple examples, such as hosting an Eagles party and changing the lighting scheme to midnight green, or hosting a political fundraiser and changing the scheme to red, white, and blue. “We’ve received a half dozen party inquiries in the past week, and we haven’t even officially launched yet,” Diehl said. “So, it’s quickly becoming a popular event space.”

“We’ve built a cool brewerycade for people to stop by and have a really awesome experience while they enjoy our beer and food,” Diehl said. “The pandemic really changed people’s eating and drinking habits, and we feel that there is a strong demand for people to enjoy the whole experience, from the free play activities and the warehouse vibe to the food and drink. There simply isn’t anything like the Gnarcadium.”
