Police Investigating Weekend Vehicle Crash in Upper Gwynedd That Sent Multiple People to Hospital

Upper Gwynedd Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon and sent multiple people to the hospital.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Sumneytown Pike and South Broad Street at 2:22 p.m. on Jan. 22. The crash involved two vehicles — one of which was a large black extended cab pickup truck, as viewed by a member of this news organization.

As a result of the incident, one person was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries, and their current status is unknown, police said. Multiple other people were transported via ambulance to Grand View Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Upper Gwynedd Police Chief David Duffy said investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash, and have subsequently filed for a search warrant to obtain a sample from one of the driver’s who had blood drawn while at the hospital. Duffy said they are working on charges, pending the results of the blood-alcohol test.

Identifying information about the drivers and victims is currently being withheld by police, as the incident remains under an active investigation and no arrests have been made.

The scene was eventually cleared at approximately 4 p.m., police said. Upper Gwynedd Police were assisted at the scene by first responders from Lansdale Borough and Towamencin Township.
