Man Who Stole More Than $480,000 From Harleysville Business Sentenced to Jail, Probation

Christopher Oleksa, 38, of New Oxford, Adams County.

A former Harleysville man has been sentenced to county jail time after admitting to stealing nearly half a million dollars from a business belonging to his former in-laws.

Christopher Oleksa, 38, now of New Oxford, Adams County, has been sentenced to 9 to 23 months in county jail after pleading guilty to one felony count of theft by deception, as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Hundreds of other charges, including identity theft, forgery, receiving stolen property and access device fraud were dropped as part of the agreement.

In addition to jail time, Oleksa must serve two years’ probation and make full restitution to his former in-laws, according to a report by Carl Hessler at the Pottstown Mercury. Oleksa will also be eligible for work release, which will allow him to begin paying restitution, the report states.

Police said Oleksa stole more than $484,000 from Firely Pediatric and Home Care Services, which is owned by Oleksa’s former in-laws. The release states that John and Holly Firely contacted the Lower Salford Police Department on April 13, 2020, to report that they had noticed numerous unauthorized and unexplained transactions on company bank accounts and credit cards. Investigators determined that Oleksa — who became the company’s chief operations officer in 2014 — had allegedly made 3,908 unauthorized credit card transactions between 2014 and early 2020, with most going towards personal expenses and others relating to Oleksa attempting to launch his own photography business, according to investigators.

Police said Oleksa would alter the credit card statements to disguise the unauthorized transactions.

Investigators also discovered that Oleksa had allegedly forged 21 business checks which were deposited into his personal bank account, and they found another 16 unauthorized wire transfers which also went into Oleksa’s personal account, the report states.
