Malagari Announces $156,000 Grant to Improve Traffic Safety in Lansdale

(The following information was provided by the office of state Rep. Steve Malagari.)

State Rep. Steve Malagari announced this week that the state Department of Transportation has awarded $156,350 to Lansdale Borough to improve traffic intersection safety.

“We’ve been on quite a roll with bringing state funding back to Montco, and public infrastructure has significantly improved because of it,” Malagari said. “Safety is the number one priority in our community. These grants will help provide the necessary equipment to make transportation safer around our region.”

Lansdale Borough will use the funding to install two ground-mounted controllers, new pedestrian signal heads, push buttons and retroreflective backplates. The grant will also cover the cost of performing traffic counts and updating the timings on the signals.

This funding comes from the Automated Red-Light Enforcement program, which aims to improve safety at signalized intersections by providing automated enforcement at locations where data shows red-light running has been an issue.

The Department of Transportation will distribute approximately $15 million in ARLE funding to 32 municipalities.
