An unidentified 77-year-old man is hospitalized in serious but stable condition after his vehicle overturned in a car wash Tuesday afternoon.
First responders were dispatched to Wave Car Wash, located along the 200 block of Bethlehem Pike in Hatfield Township, at 2:14 p.m. for a report of an overturned vehicle with entrapment. As initially reported by North Penn Now, dispatch notes indicate that police arrived at the location and found a vehicle on its side with one occupant trapped inside with a leg injury.
Crews worked for approximately 90 minutes to free the man, and he was subsequently transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital.
According to the facility’s assistant manager, the driver allegedly hit the gas instead of the break, entered the wrong side of the conveyer at a high rate of speed, and flipped onto its side after striking an arch. No injuries were reported amongst the car wash staff, though the facility was forced to temporarily close due to the incident, the manager said.
Hatfield Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from Hatfield Fire Company, Colmar Fire Company, Hilltown Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, Fire Department of Montgomery Township and the Montgomery County USAR Team.
