Souderton Man Arrested on Burglary Charges Christmas Afternoon

A Souderton man is facing felony burglary charges after he allegedly entered a home in Telford and was observed searching through a freezer on Christmas afternoon.

Jason Post, 43, has been charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespassing, along with misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking and possession of an instrument of crime, in connection with the Dec. 25 incident. He is currently in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $150,000 bail.

Telford Borough Police were dispatched to the unit block of Hartzell Avenue at 2:58 p.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. Dispatch indicated the suspect was a white male wearing a black hat and coat riding a black bicycle.

Arriving police located the suspect — identified as Post — on a sidewalk in front of the home, according to the criminal complaint.

The homeowners told police that Post had entered through a secured door in their three-season room, and then opened a chest freezer and began to search through it, police said. Post was not known to the family and had no reason to be on the property, according to charging documents.

Police said they recovered hand tools including a hammer, flashlights, pliers, a drill, wire cutters and a knife from a backpack belonging to Post. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Court documents show Post was arraigned later that evening, and his next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. in front of District Judge Regina Armitage.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
