Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop Officially Opens in Upper Gwynedd

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop in Upper Gwynedd officially opened its new location at The Shoppes at Upper Gwynedd on Monday and is ready to bring not only “The Greatest Sandwich in America” to the North Wales area, but also 20 new jobs.

For 47 years, Capriotti’s has specialized in award-winning turkey subs and cheesesteaks. Now, the 467 Sumneytown Pike location is the spot where in-house slow-roasted whole, all-natural turkeys are hand-pulled every morning.

Chris Shimer went from being a frequent diner at Capriotti’s to making it a career in October 2020, when he opened a take-out location in Philadelphia. Now, the Upper Gwynedd location is his fourth sandwich shop.

"My goal is for Capriotti's to become the go-to spot for the local community to get lunch and dinner," said Shimer. "Capriotti's is known for its premium ingredients and tasty sandwich combinations and I'm happy to expand our availability to the North Wales community.”

According to a press release, Capriotti’s is known for its variety of sandwiches, including “The Bobbie,” an award-winning sandwich of fresh oven-roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mayo, and The Capastrami, made with hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and homemade coleslaw. Other subs include the Cole Turkey, which is a turkey sub filled with Cole slaw, provolone cheese, Russian dressing, and mayo, and The Hot Bobbie.

Capriotti’s is also known for its cheesesteaks, made with premium steak, chicken or Impossible plant-based meat and melted cheese, plus hot or sweet peppers. It also offers chicken cheesesteak, chicken chipotle crunch cheesesteak (with cheddar onions and chipotle ranch dressing), a BBQ chicken cheesesteak, and a grilled chicken parmesan sandwich.

It also offers Waygu beef cheesesteaks and subs, and an Italian sausage sandwich, a classic Italian sandwich, with Genoa salami, capocollo, prosciuttini, onions, provolone cheese, and topped with lettuce, onion and tomato, a homemade tuna sub, and a meatball sandwich.

Customers can also order tomato bisque or chicken noodle soups or one of five special salads.

The North Wales Capriotti's will offer a convenient order-ahead option, in addition to third-party delivery services. It also offers catering services for any event.

Capriotti’s is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday through Sunday. Visit www.capriottis.com or call the location at 443-386-6135.

Dubbed The Shoppes at Upper Gwynedd, the new retail shopping area is located next to Royal Farms on Sumneytown Pike at Church Road. Owner Retail Sites LLC can build two additional buildings on the 4.5-acre tract, customizing retail and office space from 1,170 square feet to 9,804 square feet.

The property is the former site of Genuardis/Giant Market. In August 2019, Upper Gwynedd supervisors unanimously approved the land development request from developer Hartford Properties, according to The Reporter.

The developer had plans back in 2016 for the site, and continued them in August and October 2018, per reports. At the time, the township was also in litigation with developer Provco Pinegood over Wawa plans across the street.
