A medical emergency across the street from General Nash Elementary prompted a police and fire response on Tuesday afternoon, as well as an email from North Penn School District addressing the incident.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, units from Towamencin Township Police, Towamencin Fire Company, and the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale were dispatched to a home in the area of Liberty Bell and Stratton drives at 1:12 p.m. for a report of an unconscious subject. Multiple corroborating sources tell North Penn Now the incident involved a man whose head somehow went into a woodchipper.

The man — whose identity is being withheld by this news organization until officially released by police — reportedly died as a result of his injuries, according to the sources. North Penn Now has reached out to Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel to confirm the incident was fatal and secure further information, however we have not received a reply at the time of publishing.

In an email, Nash Elementary Principal Bill Bowen warned parents of the active incident scene and said there was police tape around the perimeter of the property and a tarp had been set up to prevent anyone from seeing the scene.

“The staff and students were never at risk due to the situation, and recess was held indoors,” Bowen said. “Extended school care will also remain inside for the afternoon.”

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
