A man was hospitalized Wednesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash involving an ambulance in Towamencin Township.
Police were dispatched to the intersection of Sumneytown Pike and Bustard Road at 5:49 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash. One of the vehicles was a Nissan Altima driven by a 53-year-old male, and the other vehicle as an ambulance belonging to the Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale, police said.
As a result of the crash, the Nissan driver was transported via ambulance to an area hospital for treatment, according to Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel. The extent of the man’s injuries is currently unknown, Troxel said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the scene was ultimately cleared around noon. Bustard Road was closed between Sumneytown Pike and Rittenhouse Road as a result of the crash.
“Due to the crash involving an ambulance, our crash investigators were called to the scene to conduct the investigation and complete the report,” Troxel said. “The road closure time was to allow for their response and investigation, as well as to await a tow truck for removal of the vehicles.”
Towamencin Township Police are being assisted at the scene by units from the Towamencin Fire Company, Harleysville Fire Police, and Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale.
North Penn Now will provide an update as soon as new information becomes available.
