Multiple families have been displaced following a two-alarm fire at Brookside Manor Apartments in Hatfield Township Wednesday afternoon.
Area first responders were dispatched to the unit block of Whitemarsh Lane at 2:01 p.m. on Feb. 1 for a report of a fire at a two-story, multi-family residence. Arriving police and fire personnel encountered a fully involved structure fire with heavy flames and smoke showing at the scene.
A second alarm was struck at the scene at 2:24 p.m. for additional manpower and resources, and the fire was eventually placed under control at 3:07 p.m., according to Emergency Alerts of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
No injuries were reported; however sources tell North Penn Now the fire damaged at least four apartments and multiple residents have become displaced as a result of the blaze. Red Cross Philadelphia said their Disaster Action Team assisted six families affected by the fire, amounting to a total of 16 people.
Cowpath Road was closed between North Broad Street and North Line Street for several hours. It reopened just before 7 p.m., police said.
First responders at the scene included units from Hatfield Township Police, Hatfield Fire Company, Colmar Fire Company, Fairmount Fire Company, North Penn Fire Company, Upper Gwynedd Fire Department, Towamencin Fire Company, Fire Department of Montgomery Township, Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale, and other supporting units.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
