Hilltown Police Seek ID of Suspect Who Used Sleight of Hand Trick to Steal Cash from Walmart

Hilltown Police are seeking public assistance to identify a "Grinch” who utilized deception and a sleight of hand trick to steal cash from the Walmart on Bethlehem Pike.

Investigators said the suspect entered the store at 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 19, selected a $3 pack of lighters, then went to the cashier and provided a $100 bill for payment. During the transaction, police said the man’s "Grinch side took over,” and he used sleight of hand and deception to take back his $100 bill while also receiving the $96 and change from the lighter transaction.

The crime is known as "flim-flam,” or more commonly known as "quick changing,” police said.

"I'm not sure this subject got the memo that this is the season of giving,” police said, in a press release. "Please help us identify this season of giving thief!”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Ryan at [email protected] or 215-453-6000. Tips can also be submitted here.
