Three men from Philadelphia are facing charges after they allegedly stole more than $4,000 in merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Montgomery Mall.
Montgomery Township Police were called to the scene at 3:34 p.m. on Nov. 30 for a report of a theft in progress. Store personnel reported that three men — identified as 32-year-old Keith Hinson, 27-year-old Jawine Ivery, and 35-year-old Casha Norton — had entered the store, selected dozens of pieces of merchandise, exited without paying and then fled the scene in a green Chevrolet minivan, according to charging documents.
Police said 61 items were stolen, valued at $4,073.24.
The vehicle was located traveling southbound on Bethlehem Pike, and a traffic stop was initiated in the area near the intersection with Welsh Road, police said. A total of five people were located inside of the vehicle, however the driver and a female passenger — whose names are being withheld as they weren’t charged — were released from custody.
Hinson, Ivery, and Norton were positively identified by store personnel, and the merchandise was located and recovered from inside the vehicle, police said.
As a result of the incident, all three men have been charged with felony counts of retail theft, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy to commit retail theft. Ivery and Hinson were also charged with various misdemeanor drug charges, following a search of their persons during their arrest.
All three men are currently free on $5,000 unsecured bail. Their next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Jan. 23, 2024, at 10:45 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
