Former Piercing Pagoda Manager at Montgomery Mall Pleads Guilty to Stealing Cash Deposits

The former manager of Piercing Pagoda at the Montgomery Mall has pleaded guilty to stealing multiple cash deposits from the store.

Makyrah Kennedy, 24, of Norristown, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking last week as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors that saw the initial felony count reduced to a first-degree misdemeanor. Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Wendy Rothstein sentenced Kennedy to three years of probation, along with an order to pay $4,014.75 restitution to Piercing Pagoda plus a fine and repayment of court costs.

Mongomery Township Police were dispatched to the store on Jan. 5 to take a report of an employee theft. A loss prevention officer explained that the store’s manager, identified as Kennedy, had stolen $4,014.75 via failing to make eight cash deposits between Nov. 4, 2002, and Dec. 22, 2022, according to charging documents.

Police said when the loss prevention officer confronted Kennedy about the missing deposits, she subsequently dropped off some of the deposits at the bank.

The single felony charge was filed against Kennedy on Jan. 10.
