A Philadelphia man is in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Facility after he was allegedly found inside of Gianni’s Pizza in Chalfont Borough early Tuesday morning.
Central Bucks Regional Police were dispatched to the the 200 block of East Butler Avenue at 12:05 a.m. on Dec. 12 for a report of an unknown male inside of the closed pizza shop. The owner told dispatch that he was remotely monitoring the interior surveillance system at the shop when he observed an unknown male inside.
Arriving police observed the male — identified as 45-year-old Walter Wright — behind the kitchen counter near the overs and said the interior of the restaurant was "in disarray with food, drink, and trash scattered throughout,” according to the criminal complaint. Investigators said Wright had gained entry to the shop at 9:20 p.m. without authorization and remained inside for nearly three hours.
Wright was taken into custody on scene, at which point police said they recovered 1.3 grams of suspected marijuana and six grams of an unknown white powder from Wright’s pocket and wallet.
As a result of the incident, Wright has been charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespassing, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and criminal mischief. He’s currently being held on 10% of $75,000 cash bail, court records show.
His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Jan. 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.
