New Details Uncovered on Homicide That Led to Bucks County Corrections Officer Being Arrested

The Bucks County Department of Corrections officer arrested while at work earlier this month is accused of taking part in a violent killing of a man, according to court filings.

As Levittown Now first reported last week, the U.S. Marshals Service and Doylestown Township police responded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on Easton Road on Dec. 2 after a warrant was received that stated Corrections Officer Aaron A. Mayers, 25, of Doylestown Township, was wanted in a New York murder case.

Mayers was arrested without incident while working in the jail, and he is being held in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility until he has an extradition hearing.

The corrections officer was charged in New York with murder in the second degree, according to the arrest warrant for Mayers issued in Bucks County.

According to court papers filed in Queens, New York City, Mayers was arrested in connection with an Oct. 20 homicide. The court papers don’t detail Mayers’ alleged role, but they do outline the basis for the charges.

One of the suspects punched a man standing near his car and other suspects began attacking the man. One of the suspects entered the wounded man’s vehicle and struck him with a door before fleeing, an NYPD detective wrote.

The man did not survive his injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital.

The Queens Gazette reported last month that detectives first suspected Ortega had been struck by a passing vehicle, but they soon realized it was an attack – believed to be connected to road rage – after reviewing security camera footage.

The victim was identified as Francisco Ortega, 50.

Mayers has been employed by Bucks County since July 2022, according to county spokesperson James O’Malley.
