Crowd Turns Out for Annual Lansdale Menorah Lighting on First Day of Hanukkah

An apparent record crowd turned out Thursday night for Lansdale’s annual Menorah Lighting at Railroad Plaza, signaling the official start to Hanukkah.

In prior years, the event would draw two- to three-dozen people, and organizers said they expected roughly 40 people this year. Instead, Lansdale Borough Police Chief Mike Trail said the crowd was well over 100 people, with organizers putting the total closer to 140.

"It’s definitely a bigger turnout than prior years,” Trail said. "It’s great to see everyone here.”

Among the crowd were many community leaders, area residents, and elected officials, including state Rep. Steve Malagari, Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert, North Wales Mayor Neil McDevitt, Magisterial District Judges Ed Levine and Andrea Duffy, and several others.

The event featured music, food, prayers, and of course, the lighting of the menorah. Check out photos from the event below.
