A woman was injured Tuesday night in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Sumneytown Pike and Forty Foot Road in Towamencin Township.
First responders were dispatched to the scene at 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 5 for a report of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries. The call was upgraded a short time later to include entrapment and rescue.
Arriving personnel found a 2018 Ford Transit Van suffering from front-end damage and a 2023 GMC Terrain SUV that had overturned after impact. Towamencin Township Police Chief Tim Troxel said the primary indications are that one of the vehicles went through a red light, causing the crash.
"[The] determination as to which driver was at fault is pending, based on the completion of the crash investigation,” Troxel said.
The driver of the GMC — identified as a 28-year-old female — was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Towamencin Fire Company, as the vehicle was on its side and the door had been pinched shut from the impact of the crash. She was transported from the scene by Skippack EMS to Grand View Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
Forty Foot Road and Sumneytown Pike were temporarily closed due to the crash, with resuming traffic being directed by fire police and Towamencin police for approximately 30 minutes until the scene was cleared at 7:17 p.m.
Troxel said there has been no determination if charges will be filed, and such decision will be made once the investigation has concluded.
