A Bucks County Department of Corrections officer was arrested at the county jail over the weekend on a murder charge out of New York state.

The U.S. Marshals Service and Doylestown Township police responded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on Easton Road Saturday morning after a warrant was received that stated Corrections Officer Aaron A. Mayers, 25, of Doylestown Township, was wanted in a New York murder case.

Mayers was arrested by federal and local law enforcement, with assistance from the Bucks County Correctional Facility investigator, according to authorities and court papers.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark said Mayers was taken into custody without incident.

Law enforcement sources told LevittownNow.com that the case was related to a violent homicide in Queens, New York City earlier this year. The case is not reported to be connected to Mayers’ work for the county. Others have already been charged in the case.

The arrest warrant for Mayers in Bucks County said he was charged in New York with murder in the second degree. However, further details on the case were not included.

An NYPD spokesperson was looking into the case as of publication time to provide more information.

Bucks County spokesperson James O’Malley said corrections officials cooperated in the case.

Mayers was taken before District Judge Stacy Wertman on a charge of arrest prior to requisition, which will hold him until an extradition hearing can be held.

According to a docket sheet, Mayers is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
