Whitpain Police Charge Montco Woman With Driving Stolen Car

A Montgomery County woman has been charged with felony receiving stolen property after police said they pulled her over while she was driving a stolen vehicle.

Kayla Owens-Mckenzie, 26, of Hatboro, was charged with receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and driving with a suspended or revoked license, among other charges. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

According to charging documents, Whitpain Township Police saw a black Toyota Tercel driving on Morris Road in Blue Bell about 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 15, and discovered after a check of the registration plate that the plate had been reported stolen in Philadelphia.

An officer pulled the Toyota over, according to charging documents, and identified the driver through her license as Owens-Mckenzie. Police said they found that her driving privileges had been suspended and the inspection stickers on the vehicle were expired.

A check of the VIN showed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Philadelphia, according to the documents, and a vehicle inventory found casino rewards cards under various names, and a MasterCard debit card registered to someone other than Owens-Mckenzie.

Owens-Mckenzie was to have had a preliminary hearing today before Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard; her next court appearance will be a formal arraignment on Oct. 4.
