An Allentown woman was arrested and charged after she allegedly attempted to cash a stolen check at Univest Bank.
Alexi Mosser, 20, was charged with forgery, theft by deception, tampering with records, receiving stolen property and escaping to evade custody.
On Aug. 11, Hilltown Township Police responded to Univest Bank in Souderton about 11:30 a.m. for a report of a fraud in progress. A bank employee told police that a woman, later identified as Mosser, was attempting to cash a bank check previously reported stolen by the owner, according to the criminal complaint.
The bank employee called the risk management department because the account was flagged, and found that Mosser had previously attempted to cash the same check at another Univest in Milford Township, according to the complaint.
When police arrived at the Souderton Univest, the bank employee gave them the check that was allegedly made out to Mosser, the report states. Police asked Mosser questions regarding her identification and where her car was, and she allegedly began walking toward the bank’s exit toward the nearby Wawa. Another officer made contact with Mosser and later took her into custody.
Mosser was arraigned on Aug. 11 by Judge Maggie Snow, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured. Her next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on Sept. 26 in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.
