Married Couple from Telford Facing New Charges Following Incidents in Telford and Sellersville, Police Say

Steven Payne, 40, and Amy Payne, 39, both of Telford.

A married couple from Telford that was arrested last month after allegedly breaking into a motor home in Montgomery Township are facing new charges of trespassing and burglary in connection with recent incidents in Sellersville and Telford.

Steven Payne, 40, and Amy Payne, 39, were initially arrested on July 14 after the owner of a motor home parked along the 1200 block of Welsh Road called police stating he had observed a man and woman inside of his vehicle. The Payne’s fled the scene on foot, however they were apprehended along the 100 block of Signal Hill Court a short time later, according to police.

Both Payne’s were charged with felony burglary and related offenses in that incident, and they were subsequently released on $10,000 unsecured bail, court records show.

On Aug. 9, Perkasie Borough Police were dispatched to the unit block of Noble Street at 5:06 p.m. for a report of a suspicious vehicle in which a man and a woman — later identified as Steven and Amy Payne — were observed exiting the vehicle and walking down an alley towards an abandoned building, police said. Police made entry into the building after setting up an exterior perimeter, at which point the Payne’s were observed exiting the building through the front door, where they were immediately taken into custody by police, according to charging documents.

Both Steven and Amy Payne were charged with felony criminal trespassing following their arrest, and court records show both were initially being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $20,000 cash bail.

Additionally, police learned that the Payne’s also had a warrant out for their arrest stemming from an incident in Telford Borough on Aug. 2. Details for that incident aren’t currently available, however court records show both were charged with four felony counts of burglary and four felony counts of criminal trespassing in that case, along with related misdemeanor and summary offenses.

Bail in that case was initially set for both Payne’s at 10% of $75,000 cash, however bail for Steven Payne was reduced to 10% of $50,000 cash on Aug. 11, and bail for Amy Payne was reduced to zero on the same day following an order from the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.

As a result of the order, Steven Payne remains in custody and Amy Payne has been subsequently released.

Three days after the Payne’s were arrested for criminal trespassing at the abandoned building along the unit block of Noble Street, another man and woman — 44-year-old Jason Post, of Souderton, and 43-year-old Maria Keller, of Ambler — were arrested at the same location. Post was charged after police caught him in the act of stripping the building of wires, and Keller was taken into custody on an existing arrest warrant out of West Rockhill Township, according to charging documents in that case.

Police have not indicated whether the trespassing charges against the Paynes and the burglary charges against Post were connected.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using police reports, court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
