Car lovers, mark your calendars: Lansdale’s Cruise Night is back for its 12th year.
During Wednesday night’s meeting, Lansdale Borough Council approved the 2023 Lansdale Cruise Night and Food Drive, which is slated for Sept. 16 at the Freight House parking lot. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the lineup starts at 5 p.m. The registration fee is $10, plus a donation of three or more packaged food items for Manna on Main Street.
At 6 p.m., there will be a prelude to the cruise, which is the car show.
In previous years, Cruise Night was along Green and Madison Streets near Railroad Plaza, but as the event has grown, the organizers wanted to use a bigger space for public safety.
“Moving us to the new, big Freight House parking lot will help with some of the safety concerns, primarily for the spectators,” said Discover Lansdale Vice-President Bill Henning.
Cruising in Lansdale dates back decades, and in the mid-90s it was shut down due to traffic. It started back up as a reunion for those who used to cruise around Lansdale, said Henning. Now, it’s an event open to the community, whether they’re taking their motors out or coming out to spectate.
“It's all about gathering car lovers, both spectator-wise and car owner-wise,” Henning said. “There's a lot of car shows in the area, but our show tends to be a moving car show where you actually hear and smell the cars, which makes it a little unique from a regular car show.”
Music will be provided by the Pennise Family Band. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 8 p.m. Prizes in several categories will be awarded before 10 p.m.
All vehicles must be road-worthy, and all traffic laws must be strictly obeyed. Tire burnouts are prohibited and will be fined by Lansdale Police. Exhaust flames or hydraulics are not allowed. No alcohol is permitted.
