Circularix to Open Four Additional PET Recycling Facilities Nationally Following Opening of Facility in Hatfield Township

The 100,000-square-foot behemoth Circularix structure along Route 309/Bethlehem Pike in Hatfield Township, across from The East End and between Sterling Drive and Swartley Road, is the first of five major polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recyclers to be built across the U.S. as part of a joint venture by an Australian and Californian commodity group.

According to RecyclingToday.com, Los Angeles-based HPC Industries LLC, which formerly owned the defunct and bankrupt PET recycler CarbonLITE, and Australia-based Macquarie Group’s Commodities and Global Markets division have teamed up to produce recycled PET pellets.

The Hatfield facility has a total annual production capacity of more than 275 million pounds of rPET resin, per the article.

Macquarie is assisting Circularix with project debt, equipment finance, foreign exchange hedging, and risk management solutions, per the report.

According to HPC Chairman and Circularix Chairman and CEO Leon Farahnik the Hatfield location is a “major hub” for its customers and will produce 55 million pounds of food-grade, post-consumer rPET pellets from flake instead of bottles. Farahnik said the facility features advanced automation and equipment from Starlinger in Austria.

Farahnik said the U.S. has 1.4 billion pounds of PET flakes available annually for processors, and 2 billion pounds internationally.

“Consumer brands are struggling to meet their sustainability goals as current rPET supply is unable to scale as needed,” he said in the article.

According to WasteDive.com, Circularix is opening its four other facilities in Florida, Arizona, Texas, and the Pacific Northwest, and all operational by 2025.

Circularix’s construction in Hatfield was made possible by local commercial real estate developer Nappen & Associates
