Man Sentenced to Probation for Promoting Prostitution in Montgomery Township

A Harrisburg man has been sentenced to probation for promoting prostitution in Montgomery Township.

Jared Harrison, 40, recently pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of promoting prostitution as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Additional charges of promoting prostitution, transporting a prostitute in the commonwealth, criminal use of a communication facility, and criminal solicitation of prostitution were dropped in exchange for his plea, court records show.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Wendy Rothstein sentenced Harrison to two years’ probation on the promoting prostitution charge, along with the stipulation that he avoid contact with the victim.

According to the criminal complaint, Harrison called Montgomery Township Police on July 15, 2022, to arrange for the pickup of property belonging to a female who was known to engage in prostitution and had been released several days earlier. While speaking to Harrison, police ran his number through a website where prostitutes advertise their services and found an ad with his number, accompanied by a photo of the female whose had previously been in custody, the complaint states.

Investigators sent a text to Harrison’s number inquiring if “she” would come to the area for half an hour, at which point “she” responded “for $150” along with a request for cigarettes and a soda, police said.

Harrison arrived at the police station to pick up the property, and wrote the same number down as listed in the prostitution ad on the property form, police said. When asked if the female was with him, Harrison said no, however a person was observed in the passenger seat as Harrison drove away from the police station, according to charging documents.

A short time later, Harrison and the passenger — later identified as the known prostitute who was listed in the ad — arrived at the meetup location that police had arranged, the report states. Upon being stopped by police, investigators said Harrison’s navigation device displayed “You have reached your destination,” police said.

Investigators seized Harrison’s phones, which allegedly showed multiple messages inquiring about prostitution along with personal information about Harrison and photos of the female used in the prostitution ads, police said.

Charges were officially filed against Harrison on Nov. 18, 2022, however he wasn’t taken into custody until Jan. 24 when he was arrested on felony aggravated assault charges and related offenses following a traffic stop in Upper Providence Township.

The aggravated assault charge was later dropped during Harrison’s preliminary hearing.

Court records show Harrison also struck a deal with prosecutors in that case, pleading guilty to one felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and having additional charges of resisting arrest, six counts of reckless endangerment, and related traffic offenses withdrawn as part of the agreement. Harrison was sentenced in that case to 9 to 23 months in county jail followed by two years’ probation, as well as a $500 fine, a year long suspension of his driver’s license, and 24 hours of community service.

Harrison will receive credit for 176 days of time served, and his probation sentence on the Montgomery Township charges will run concurrently with his jail and probation sentence, court records show.
