Victim of East Main Street Assault Was Arrested for Domestic Violence Night Before Assault, Police Say

A Lansdale man who was hospitalized eight days ago following an assault on East Main Street was arrested for domestic violence in the hours precipitating the assault, according to court documents.

Lansdale Police were dispatched to the 200 block of East Main Street at 10:47 p.m. on April 15 for a report of a domestic assault. Arriving police spoke to a juvenile victim and their mother, who stated that 44-year-old Kareem Ross had punched the juvenile victim, slammed their head into the ground, and kneed them in the stomach multiple times, according to charging documents against Ross.

Police said they observed bruising and swelling on the juvenile’s nose and face, and they were subsequently transported to Grand View Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Ross declined to speak with police and was taken into custody on charges of simple assault and harassment. Court records show Ross was arraigned the following morning at 9:30 a.m., and he was released from custody a short time later on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Several hours after Ross returned home following his arraignment, police were again dispatched to the home along the 200 block of East Main Street, where they found a semi-conscious Ross lying in a pool of blood in the rear parking lot suffering from injuries to his head, eyes, mouth, and neck areas, police said.

A witness at the scene told police Ross had gotten into an argument with his stepson — identified as 24-year-old Yasim Jackson, of Lansdale — about being at their property. The argument escalated when Ross shoved Jackson, and the two then began punching each other, with the entire altercation lasting approximately 30 seconds, police said. The witness stated they saw Ross fall to the ground and then Jackson fled the scene, according to charging documents.

Ross was ultimately airlifted to Jefferson Hospital, where he was sedated, intubated, and placed on a ventilator, police said.

Investigators said they later spoke with Jackson’s mother following the incident, who advised Jackson was at her home to supervise her children while she was away. The criminal complaint does not specify if the juvenile victim from the prior evening's assault was on location at the time of the alleged fight between Ross and Jackson.

Charges of aggravated assault with extreme indifference, reckless endangerment, and simple assault were filed against Jackson later that day, and he was subsequently taken into custody and arraigned on the charges on April 18.

Jackson is currently free on 10% of $10,000 cash bail, which was posted by his mother, court records show. His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing on June 14 at 11:45 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.

Hospital officials declined to provide an update on Ross’ condition or confirm if he was still a patient. He currently has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 3 at 9:45 a.m. in front of Judge Levine on the simple assault and harassment charges.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using court records and the affidavit of probable cause.
